Blog Tour

Owlet Blog Tour + Review!

December 28, 2014

Hey Guys!

So today I am really happy to be participating in this blog tour today! It is a book called Owlet (as you have probably noticed, so I'm excited! Ms. Michael's kindly offered to send me the novel, and I graciously accepted, and so, here's my review!

Owlet Review

I received this book for free from the author to review, however all opinions are my own and the review is completely unbiased.

My Review:

I quite liked this book. I feel it was really interesting and a hell of a lot happened in it. I am excited to read the next installment, and am just interested in what happens next.

It is about the girl called Iris. She is eighteen years old, and has extremely bad asthma. After a very strong attack, she dreams of a land covered in white feathers.

After admitting this to her father, the secrecy around her is flattened from the walls encasing her from the real world and she is whisked away with her babysitter/carer, Diana.

As the secrets that kept her life together start to unravel, Iris wonders how much she has even learnt during her eighteen years of life.

I will repeat this again

A LOT happens in this book.

This book is about 200 ish pages, which I personally like, because with ebooks I am not the hugest fan of 800 page long sagas, (tried to read City of Ashes on my Kobo, Ugh) so this was better.
However, I feel to set a lot of scenery and base out the whole of a series, the first of a trilogy and/or a quartet needs to be longer to accommodate the setting, description and introduction of characters. I don't think we even know what Diana looks like. If there was more description in the novel instead of so much action, I would have loved it a lot more.

So in the beginning, the Eyrie and Stryx components of the novel wasn't particularly clear. You got to understand little bits and pieces about the Eyrie and Stryx throughout the novel, but towards the end you are given a full explanation of what is happening.

The book was good and I would like to carry on with the series. It is gonna get a 3.5 from me though for lack of description, purely because I prefer description over action. However if you like the mystery surrounding withheld information and enjoy fast-paced books you should definitely try out this one.

Thank you Emma for allowing me to participate in your blog tour, and let me know when the next one arrives!

Somewhere between falling and flying… there is a girl.
Iris has a secret. She lost her memory eight years ago and never told a living soul.
After an asthma attack one night she finds out that her dreams of a strange house on a snowy island may be a memory resurfacing but the more she learns about the past the more she realizes the life she has been living is a lie. As the fa├žade her father has built starts to crumble around her she will have to decide which means more to her; the truth or her life.

2015 Challenges

Introducing... The 30 x 30 Challenge!

December 28, 2014

Hey Guys,

I really wanted to host a different challenge during 2015, and I haven't seen one like this before. Someone I know hosted a similar challenge, but I altered it to make it more my own. The 30 x 30 Challenge is about connecting with God more during the New Year. We can start or end our days on a more positive note if we devoted a small amount of time to the Lord.

What I got For Christmas 2014!

December 27, 2014

Hey guys!
I am trying to post this ASAP, just because that's what everyone else is doing...

So this Christmas was pretty quiet. I never really get that many presents for Christmas but I am super lucky to get presents in general compared to those living in a worse state than me, and I am super grateful to everyone who got me a gift. I am not trying to boast or brag about what I got because this is just what people gave to me and I am not spoilt or ungrateful for these things.

My parents didn't get me anything, but this year they did give me some money, which I am going to be saving.

My sisters got me;
- A pair of navy blue converses
- The Pink Holy Pocket Bible, which she saw on my Christian Christmas Wishlist
- Her by Emily Cole , which I asked her for because I couldn't find it anywhere and I really wanted it! This was also on my Christian Wishlist
-A grey and rose gold Floral watch

My friends got me;
- The I love... miniature bubble bath and shower creme collection, because they know I love the strawberries and cream body spray and the banana split shower creme.
- The Studio Lip Gloss and Nail Varnish Duo
- The Sweet Snuggles Yummy Bathing gift set,
- The Lush Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb,
- The Radox Feel Good Shower Heaven Shower Set
- The Academy of Colour Bronzing Collection kit.
- A box of Celebrations.

Once again I am super grateful for all the gifts I received, thank you to everyone!

Celeb T.V. Styles I wanna steal in 2015

December 26, 2014

Hey People!

I hope you all have had an amazing Christmas! Boxing Day Sales anyone?

So recently, because of the holidays, I have been watching a lot more T.V. and catching up on social medias. So far I have come to love a lot of celebrity styles, especially in T.V. shows. I finished 90210 on Netflix a while ago, and have now moved on to Gossip Girl. Yes, I like them!

I am literally just going to choose five of my favourites and write about them a little bit, but I hope to do some style steals in the new year!

(I own none of the photos featured in this post, and do not claim them as my own, I just wanted examples to show my audience)

Blog Appreciation Post 2014- Part Two- The Blogs I've Enjoyed!

December 24, 2014

These are a series of blogs I have loved reading during the past year! I will also try and write a little bit about them! But these are in no order, because I like all of these blogs, probably not exactly equally, but they all deserve their limelight on mine. That most likely doesn't make sense. Oh well!

  1. Eat Read Glam- This blog is made by a lovely lady named Rosie (I say that because I follow her on Twitter). She is a books and beauty blogger, sort of. Her photos are amazing! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!!! It is pretty much like she just rented out a studio for her hauls.... I could just stare at them all day.... *goes into a daze staring at NARS lip pencils and make up remover*
  2. Queen of Contemporary a.k.a Lucy The Reader- Okay, so this blog is abso-lutely awesomesauce. Lucy (the blogger behind it) is a teenager from Britain and I think it's so great that the website itself is so well put together. It is so pretty! And I really like her reviews!
  3. Alison Can Read- I just love this blog! This was one of the first book blogs I read and, well, I just love reading all the posts. Also partly in charge of Feature Follow Friday which I have done on my blog a couple of times.
  4. Parajunkee- Probably, maybe, might just be my favourite blog of all time, I really love it. I am subscribed via GFC and email and Bloglovin'. Maybe because her name is Rachel, and my name is Rachel too. Us Rachels stick together y'know. She does review a lot of romance novels which I wouldn't think of picking up, but still love the blog!
  5. YA Yeah Yeah! Jim is an awesome guy, with an awesome blog. And he loves YA, and indie bookshops. He is also a large part of UKYA, same as the lovely Lucy The Reader.
  6. The Bookworm Who Came To Tea (no longer active)- Lily is a great person! Plus her blog is too, and we have something special for you guys coming up...
  7. The Fashion Of Craft- Really fun and cute-sy blog! I Really enjoy reading her posts. But I want to steal her colour scheme, sometimes :D
  8. A Beautiful Mess- I really like this blog. It is really quirky and fun, I haven't been reading for that long but I have really enjoyed what I have read so far. It is a lot of D.I.Y.'s, and the Christmas ones have looked fab! I should try them out, but Christmas is tomorrow and I'm afraid of being killed by last minute shoppers and turkeys who are running from their looming deaths.
  9. Fashion Novel (no longer active) - I love this blog! I am subscribed, like 2-3 times on bloglovin', GFC and email or something. The person who writes it, Sophie, has a really unique writing style and her blog is super professional!
I think that those are all of the blogs that I really wanted to honour this year!

Blog Appreciation Post 2014! Part one- The Thank You's

December 21, 2014

So it is coming to the end of the year now, and I decided to give you guys a small, short but sweet thank you. So here goes:

Thank you so much to the loyal followers who have stayed with me from URL to URL. I have missed months and when I come back I see that I still haven't lost you as a follower, and you are still there, reading my posts. That makes me feel so, so special, that I can be even the tiniest part of your day, I am so thankful for all of you, almost the most. THANK YOU!

Also thank you to all the new followers, who sometimes comment on my blog posts. Sometimes I don't reply, and that's really bad, but just know that I have definitely seen your comment, and I have smiled and probably even jumped for joy after reading it, because I don't get too many comments anymore.

This sounds weird, but thank you to all the haters, all those people who try so hard to put me down, because, as the wise say (or Demi Lovato) 'Go on and try to tear me down, I will be rising from the ground, Like a skyscraper' So screw you, and thank you.

Thank you to everyone, who reads my blog and for the thousands of thousands of views I have received. Thank you guys so much, you really inspire me to push on with this. Without you being here, I really doubt that I would be the same person in the same position I am in now. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Thank you to all the authors who have offered to let me read free copies of their novels. An authors novel is pretty much their child, and handing over your baby to be evaluated by some crazy teenager is brave guys, brrrrrraaaaavvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeee. Not that you should stop, I like reading your novels! Thanks!

Thank you to the bloggers that make me realize how hard I have worked on my blog and how long its taken me to get my blog up and running and to get so many people to see. When you just start blogging, I will probably be the first one to say that it is really, really hard. I am still struggling. However, as you can see, there are no guest posts or collaborations on this blog. You probably will see a link on this blog leading to another blog, but not vice versa. My blog isn't ghost written, but pure carpal tunnel and over 2 and 1/2 years instead. I love reading new blogs, but only expect something from me if you are really willing to put in the effort. So I guess that's a thank you, as because of your expectations, I appreciate hard work a lot more now.

So that is part one of the post, and thank you so much for reading!

Rachel x

The Earl and the Fairy Vol. 2 Review

December 19, 2014

The Earl and The Fairy, Vol. 02 by Mizue Tani

My rating: 4 of 5
To read my review of the first book in the series; please click here! (Opens in a new tab)

I really loved reading this story. The plot was cute but there was still so much action and adventure and fun happening in the book. The characters were so much better in this and I enjoyed it so much better than the first!
Th story is about a girl called Lydia, Lydia Carlton. She is a fairy doctor and she was on her way to meet her father, a professor in London when she was kidnapped, then saved by another kidnapper! (Kind of confusing but it is pretty well explained when you read it). Both kidnappers are looking for the same thing; the sword of the Blue Knight Earl, and they will do anything to get it.

This would be a great winter read!

So this review will have spoilers, so if you do not plan on reading this or have read it, please carry on. And to the rest of you who plan on reading it, this is where I must mark the X in blood, but thank you for reading and please feel free to check out some of my other reviews, most of which don't have spoilers.

Christmas Booktubeathon 2014!

December 15, 2014

So hey guys,

Sorry I haven't posted in a little bit, the internet in my house has pretty much completely crashed. But I literally have just been able to hack myself in just before it pushes me out again- lucky ducky!

So I found out about the Christmas Booktube-a-thon earlier on, pretty much a couple of hours ago. But, I am forming a TBR for you guys already.

If you haven't heard of Booktube-a-thon, it is where youtubers and bloggers and bookktubers and regular people read as many books as possible in a time limit. So basically it is a read-a-thon. But I really like doing Booktube-a-thons especially, I have no idea why, I just do! These ones have challenges and loads of fun stuff to do, also my favourite youtubers tend to be apart of them so it is alwaayyyyssss great!
This year the #xmasbooktubeathon is being hosted by the lovely Ariel Bissett on the BookTubeAThon channel that she made and designed.

The video link is heerrreee:

So here are the details as well;
December 19th - December 21st!

1) Read a book with red and green on the cover!
2) Read a book you really wanted to read this year!
3) Read a book that was gifted to you!
4) Read 3 books!

And these are the books I am reading!

1) Read a book with red and green on the cover!
I will be reading the Louise Rennison book, Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging. I am completely aware that it has different editions with different covers, but as far as I am aware I am receiving this cover from my local library.
I also think this is green and red. It looks green and red to me at least.

Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson, #1)
2) Read a book you really wanted to read this year!
For this I chose Beauty Queens by Libba Bray. Really interested in this book. Haven't read it yet though! It is pretty long, but I am gonna love it, I hope...
Beauty Queens

3) Read a book that was gifted to you!
I haven't actually been gifted a book which I haven't read immediately. So I decided that for this one I would just choose a book someone recommended. Raeleen from padfootandprongs07 recommends The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Steven Chbosky. This is meant to be a pretty short, fun book which I am excited  to read.

4) Read 3 books!
This is just one for each day, I think I just did too!

See you guys sooooooonnnnn!

Reading Challenges I am going to be doing next year!

December 06, 2014

Good evening!

So today I am going to be talking about a couple of reading challenges that I am going to be doing next year. Apart from my Goodreads books challenge and the Booktube-a-thon, I haven't really read many books during a challenge, so I am hoping to start a new challenge myself, and do these ones.

2015 Contemporary Romance Reading ChallengeThe Contemporary Romance 2015 Reading Challenge, Hosted by The Book Vixen

So this challenge is basically to read as many contemporary romance novels during the year 2015 as possible. It has been going up for a couple of years now and has been hosted by two or three other different people,

Put the Library on Hold: A Month of Reading From Our Own Shelves, hosted by The Emerald City Book Review

The 'Put Your Library On Hold' Reading Challenge is where for the first month of the year, i.e. January, you can't go to the library to borrow books or read any books taken from the library. It's meant to be a time where you read those books on your tbr shelf at home and none of the stuff you borrow out.

The British Books Challenge 2015, hosted by Fluttering Butterflies

Aim of the game- Read 12+ books by British authors in the year 2015 and review them!

I don't think I am doing any more challenges, (apart from my Goodreads one which I haven't decided ow many books I want to read for that) but I will post TBR's and other details just before I do these challenges and I have my own challenge I will be hosting so please get excited for that because it is coming soon!
